In these constantly changing times our thoughts are with you and your families. We hope that you are all well and safe. Here at Birlinn, our intention is to keep going safely – working from our respective homes. We will carry on with the supply of books direct to your door (within government guidelines)  and perhaps most importantly support the online sites of our friends, the booksellers.

A strong year of development for The Swedish Club

The Swedish Club announced a strong year of development to its Board yesterday, a year which saw healthy growth of free reserves and business volume increase. The Club made an operating result of USD 24.6 million supported by strong investment income. Investment alone generated a return just short of 10%. Free reserves stood at USD 228 million at the end of the accounting year.

Donjon starts dredging NYC cruise berth to take USNS Comfort; NTSB issues report on towboat sinking

LOS ANGELES (March 27, 2020) The Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) arrives in Los Angeles, March 27, 2020. Mercy deployed in support of the nation’s COVID-19 response efforts, and will serve as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients currently admitted to shore-based hospitals. This allows shore base hospitals to focus their efforts on COVID-19 cases. One of the Department of Defense’s missions is Defense Support of Civil Authorities. DoD is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal agency, as well as state, local and public health authorities in helping protect the health and safety of the American people. Donjon Marine was contacted last week, hurried a dump scow out of dry dock 10 days earlier than scheduled, and moved its dredge the Delaware Bay and two others from ongoing projects into position. Full Article

NSR 2020 News Update

Dear North Sea Regatta Friends,

To stop COVID everyone has to participate. That is why countries imposed strict measures to combat the crisis. The Dutch government directed more extensive and prolonged measures to try and control the virus from spreading even further. These new rules and regulations took immediate effect as of 23 March.
