Subic Bay Cup turns on the charm…

27:02:2019 Subic Bay, Philippines: Although the keelboat fleet is reduced to six yachts in one combined class, they set off on a 21nm point to point race, that crisscrossed Subic Bay, basked in clear blue sky, with a 15 to 20 knot North Easterly to push them along. The Standard Insurance Centennial III crew have split up into Match Racing teams and once again dominated the Round Robins today.

Subic Bay Cup starts with Match Racing…

26:02:2019 Subic Bay, Philippines: History in the making, with the first Match Racing event, ever to be held in the Philippines. PRO Inge Stromph Jepsen from Hong Kong, has assembled a team of umpires under Chief Umpire Ewan McEwan (Singapore), are training the local race committee to conduct Match Racing on Far East 28R keelboats, in preparation for the 30th SEA Games, in late November. Three Teams from the Philippine Sailing Association (PSA) and one representing the Subic Sailing Team, completed two Round Robins today, in consistent 8 to 12, gusting to 20 knot Easterly breeze. Keeping in line with World Sailing equal gender opportunity, two men skippers Ridgely Balladares and Emerson Villena are taking on two women, Jerene Durana and Maria Vidoeira. FONARs are ‘Not a Free Pass’ to Use Non-Compliant Low Sulphur Fuel, Warns ICS

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has welcomed the decision in principle by the UN IMO that safety or operational concerns about the quality of low sulphur fuels may, in exceptional circumstances, be a valid reason for shipowners to be issued with a Fuel Oil Non Availability Report (FONAR) when the IMO global sulphur cap, requiring fuels to have a sulphur content of 0.5% or less, comes into full effect on 1 January 2020.
