March 20, 2018 — Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc. confirmed yesterday that through its subsidiary Gulf Island Shipyards, L.L.C., it has signed a contract for the construction and delivery of one Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship (T-ATS) vessel with the U.S. Navy with an option for seven additional vessels.

Corinne in drydock 23rd-26th March.


Regarding today’s circulation of the vessel Corinne.

The vessel will be in dry dock at Paljasaare/Netaman shipyard (Tallinn/Estonia) 23rd-26th March for intermediate survey and update of certificates. If the weather permit some paint job will be done. We will be there to renew our pictures and take aditional pictures from the bottom and inside the cargo hold. We had several clients asking for the virual tour/360° pictures and we hope that we can have that on our website a week after the docking.

Wärtsilä and Crowley extend maintenance agreement for 11 articulated tug barges

The technology group Wärtsilä and Crowley Petroleum Services are continuing their co-operation by extending and expanding their maintenance agreement for 11 articulated tug barges (ATBs) owned and operated by US-based Crowley. An ATB has a hinged connection system that allows a powerful ocean-going tug to connect to a notch in the stern of the barge, which enables the tug to propel and maneuver the barge.

Satellites paint a detailed picture of maritime activity

  • DescriptionIn 2010, the Norwegian Space Centre launched the AISSat-1 nanosatellite to demonstrate the detection of AIS signals, supported by ESA’s GSTP and Prodex programmes.

    The colour code shows how many times each ship has been observed by AISSat-1 during the observation period of 24 hours (red->yellow: fewer observations, green->blue: more observations).

    In areas with heavy maritime traffic the number of messages sent by ships can be so high that they jam the satellite receiver.
