2017 International Melges 24 Class World Council AGM – Deadline for the Aendments to the Motions is October 6th
International Melges 24 Class Association’s Annual General Meeting 2017 will be held in Royal Ocean Racing Club, London, UK on November 4. The AGM will be preceded by the Technical Committee Meeting on November 3.
Motions and nominations to the Agenda have been updated to the AGM 2017 website and National Classes shall submit the amendments to the above motions by Friday, October 6th – to the Class Administrator Piret Salmistu at piret@melges24.com)
All National Class Administrators are requested to send a National Class Report as a short summary of 2017 activities and situation to piret@melges24.com no later than November 1st !
For the ones not coming to the AGM, there will be Zoom connection available to participate online. Nations are asked to confirm the name of their representatives or proxies and any observers as soon as possible to assist us in the management and planning of the meeting.

European Sailing Series 2017:
FGF Sailing Team HUN728 Wins in Medmeblik Open Dutch Nationals
Hungarian FGF SAILING TEAM of Domonkos Rozsnyay with Robert Bakoczy helming won the penultimate event of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series during the Delta Lloyd Open Dutch Championship in Medemblik on September 15-17 and were crowned as the Dutch Melges 24 Champions 2017 with a solid margin ahead of Dutch TEAM KESBEKE/SIKA/GILL securing second place and GILL RACE TEAM (GBR) rounding out the podium in third.

NORWAY: Team Storm Capital Sail Racing is Melges 24 Norwegian Champion 2017
Peder Jahre and the team STORM CAPITAL SAIL RACING NOR751 won their fourth Norwegian Melges 24 title in a row! Storm Capital Sail Racing won gold in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and another three titles were won before, so it was seventh title for them already!
Peder Nergaard, Eivind Rubinstein, Morten Helgesen and Petrus Eide on SLAM&BLOW NOR787 doubled the silver of last season, while Andreas Sola Fischer, Jon Aksel Mortensen, Aksel Smestad Jacobsen, Magnus Andersen and Maxime Schjøtt Brackman on MÅS WOLFPACK RACING NOR724 took their first medal in Melges 24 at the Norwegian Nationals. It’s great to see new generation going on in the Melges 24 class.
21 teams, including boats of GBR, SWE, GER and NOR, were competing at the 2017 Norwegian Melges 24 Nationals hosted by Fredrikstad Sailing Association in Hanko on September 8-10.

CANADA: Kevin Welch’s MiKEY Is Melges 24 Canadian Champion 2017, Kevin Nixon’s Accru Takes Corinthian Title
Three days of racing on the waterfront of Toronto on September 22-24 saw competitive sailing to find out the Melges 24 Canadian Champions 2017. National Yacht Club of Toronto together with Canadian Melges 24 Class Association was hosting the championship where twenty three teams of U.S., Great Britain and Canada were participating. After seven races held, Kevin Welch’s USA-838 MIKEY with Jason Rhodes on a helm and tactician Hunter Lowden taking well deserved title!
Congrats also to Richard Reid’s CAN-629 ZINGARA winning the silver followed by Peter Bergendahl and team USA-798 Wardance as third. Huge congrats to Australian Kevin Nixon’s AUS-812 ACCRU for the Corinthian title followed by Zane Yoder’s USA-9 FNG/EELSNOT and Roger Counihan and team USA-775 JAWS!

NORWAY: Jens Wathne’s Party Girl Wins JAVACUP 2017
15 teams were participating through the season at the five regattas of JAVACUP2017 in Norway. Unfortunately no sailing at the final regatta of the series in Bergen due to the lack of wind on September 16-17.
Increasing number of participants is a good base to continue with the series also next year. The fleet has published their initial schedule for 2018 including Melges 24 Norwegian Open Nationals and Nordic Championship scheduled for June 8-10.

U.S.A.: Kent Pierce’s Average White Boat Wins 2017 California Cup
The 2017 edition of the Melges California Cup saw six great races for the fleet of Melges 24 teams in wonderful sailing conditions over the weekend of September 16-17. The Santa Cruz Yacht Club

did an excellent job managing the races and hosting the sailors ashore.

Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2017:
Final Event in Luino on October 13-15 – Two Weeks to Go
2017 Melges 24 European Sailing Series will come to an end in Luino, Italy in October with the 14th edition of the Lino Favini Cup (Coppa Lino Favini), considered also as the Melges 24 Swiss Open Championship and 4th Act of Melges 24 Italian Series 2017.

We are getting ready for our Melges 24 end of season classic, the Coppa Lino Favini
Once more we will have the honor of hosting the Swiss nationals, the Italian and the European circuit finals.  We pride ourselves to be chosen once again by my favorite class to be the final event of her wonderful season.

U.S.A.: Registration Open for Davis Island YC Invitational, Nov 11-12
Registration is now open for the 2017 Melges 24 Invitational Regatta taking place on November 11-12, hosted by the wonderful and really fun Davis Island Yacht Club.
Two days of great racing are scheduled.
