In the Corinthian division, it was an exciting final day as Marco Giannini’s EVINRUDE pulled ahead to beat Marina Kaverzina’s MARUSSIA for the highly-coveted all-amatuer 2017 Melges 20 Corinthian Championship title.

Freides Crowned 2017 U.S. National Champion
After eight races in idyllic Newport, Rhode Island, Drew Freides and his PACIFIC YANKEE team of Morgan Reeser and Charlie Smythe are the 2017 Melges 20 US National Champions.

With a challenge mounted by John Kilroy on SAMBA PA TI, Freides used stellar speed and clean sailing to post a consistent scoreline and assert themselves as contenders heading into the 2017 World Championship.

The Melges 20 fleet was treated to a wide variety of conditions on both the ‘outside’ and ‘inside’ race courses that Newport offers. PRO Anderson Reggio and his team at Sail Newport Race Committee did a fantastic job of providing efficient, world class racing and ensured a fair race track.

With the North American World League almost finalized, the World Championship will be the ultimate decider in this intense, season long series.
