IM24CA Membership Renewal
2017 is well underway and it means the time to renew the membership for the International Melges 24 Class Association on our website www.melges24.com

Please kindly ask your National Class Administrators to take care of renewing your membership to be valid for racing at the International Melges 24 class regattas. According to the Melges 24 Class Rule B.2.1.: ‘The owner and helmsman shall be a current member of their NCA or, where there is no NCA in his country, a member of the ICA or and NCA nominated by the ICA.’ The membership editing system is ready to go on the website and you can add your 2017 members.

Melges 24 NorAm Championship 2017: Columbia River Gorge, U.S. on July 19-22

Welcome to the Melges 24 NorAm Championship 2017, hosted by the Columbia Gorge Racing Association, in Cascade Locks, Oregon on July 19-22.
Following the hugely successful 2015 Melges 24 US Nationals at Cascade Locks the Melges 24 class is making an enthusiastic return for four days of what two-time Olympic medalist, America’s Cup sailor and multiple Melges 24 World Champion, Jonathan McKee calls, “Some of the most spectacular sailing in the world”. McKee adds, “CGRA is a group of accomplished sailors who do a first-class job at running championship regattas.”

To test the waters of the Worlds the best training for the Melges 24 sailors would be the Melges 24 Finnish Open Nationals held one week before the Worlds on the same venue on July 22-23. The Notice of Race for this event will be published shortly.

The best options for the pre-Worlds training will be:
1. Nordic and Swedish Melges 24 Championship, European Sailing Series event in Marstrand, SWE, June 16-18
2. Hanko Race Week, one of the most popular Melges 24 events in Norway – Fredrikstad, June 28-July 2 – Read the Norwegian class’ introduction and logistic information
3. Kiel Week, famous Kieler Woche in Kiel, Germany on June 22-25
IM24CA is working on the travel plans and boats/cars storing options in Stockholm area to leave the boats there before going to Helsinki at the end of July.

Besides all other useful information, Sailing World, the magazine is searching for personal stories from sailors about their own one-design class for the new ‘My Class, My Story’ column. Sailing World’s editor Dave Reed invites sailors to write about one-design boats and the communities that make them stand out. Dave says, “They’re simply fiberglass objects that provide us immense pleasure, a competitive outlet, and a social network for life. It’s the people and the stories that make each of them unique. Kevin Welch’s Mikey Wins 2017 Helly Hansen St. Pete NOOD
In a heated three day battle at the first event of Sailing World Magazine’s NOOD Regatta Circuit, Kevin Welch’s Mikey took top honors in St. Petersburg over the past weekend February 17-19. With some very stiff competition handed out by second place finisher KC Shannon’s Shaka Team (second) and George Haynie’s Firewater (third), the fleet enjoyed intense light-air racing conditions on Tampa Bay.

2.) KC Shannon, Shaka = 11 pts.

SLOVENIA – Melges 24 Spring Training in Portoroz
Before the start of the 2017 Melges 24 European Sailing Series in Portoroz, Melges 24 Italian Class will organize two weekend training camps run by Davide Stulle. Dates would be March 31-April 2 and April 7-9. Any boats who would like to train can join the great offer made by the Marina Portoroz.

U.S. – Bacardi Miami Sailing Week on March 9-11
Two weeks to go! Teams representing countries from all over the world will meet again and line up under Miami’s sunny skies on Biscayne Bay to compete for the celebrate Bacardi Cup and the BMSW regatta trophy. This event is always a lot fun, and with nine Melges 24s teams from U.S. and one from Norway already signed up to race – poised to shake off the dust, ramp up the speed and prepare for Nationals in Charleston.
Bacardi Miami Sailing Week (BMSW) is happening on March 9-11, 2017 (Thursday-Saturday race days). Register online here
AUSTRALIA – Vostok Europe Series Part 2 on March 18-19
Vostok Europe Series Part 2 is the final weekend in the biggest prize regatta in the Australian Melges 24 calendar. Racing for the beautifully crafted Vostok Europe sports watch.

Weekend result winners will celebrate with award winning South Australian wines. Event will be hosted by the Adelaide Sailing Club. Accommodation is available right next door at the Adelaide Shores Holiday Village or Caravan Park, or apartment & hotel style available in nearby Glenelg.
NorAm Tour 2017: Melges 24 U.S. National Championship in Charleston on April 7-9
Melges 24 U.S. National Championship will be a stand-alone championship event and will be hosted just two weeks in advance of the world-famous Sperry Charleston Race Week, making it the perfect warm-up event and the ultimate spring-time, double-header for the Melges 24 Class. Already a host of information is available on the Melges 24 US National Championship – Act 2 of the 2016/17 Quantum World Winter Series and Stage 1 of the NorAm Tour 2017. Nineteen boats are already signed up and ready to go for this spectacular Class event! Look at the Entry List!

ITALY – Lario Sailing Series on Como Lake From June to September
ALM24, Associazione Lariana Melges 24, in cooperation with Italian Melges 24 Class Association and Yacht Club Como, is organizing the 2017 edition of Lario Sailing Series. The events are scheduled on six weekends between June and September including Act #3 of the Melges 24 Italian Sailing Series in June. This is a great option to compete in Italy also during the summertime and before the Italian Tour together with Melges 24 European Sailing Series will be held in Luino in October.
