Do you know of a worthy recipient for the 2017 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea?

IMO is looking for nominations relating to exceptional acts of bravery performed at sea between 1 March 2016 and 28 February 2017. The nomination form can be submitted by a UN Member State, intergovernmental organization or non-governmental international organization in consultative status with IMO.

For the second year running Poole Quay Boat Haven has picked up one of the marine industry’s most prestigious awards.  It beat off competition from 40 marinas around the UK to be named as UK Coastal Marina of the Year 2017 (under 250 berths) by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA).

Microplastics – tiny pieces of plastic or fibres increasingly found in the oceans – have been found in a variety of commercial fish and shellfish, including samples purchased from retail outlets, according to a new study. The report, the second part of a global assessment of the sources, fates and effects of microplastics in the marine environment, provides a new section devoted to the potential impacts of microplastics on commercial fish and shellfish species. Further research is needed in order to determine how and if microplastics pose a risk for food safety and potentially food security, the report says.
