Conrad Shipyard to build first LNG bunker barge in U.S.
February 25, 2015—It was an historic day for the U.S. maritime industry as Conrad Orange Shipyard, Inc., Orange, TX, a division of Conrad Shipyard, LLC, Morgan City, LA, signed a contract with WesPac Midstream LLC (WesPac), Irvine, CA, to build the first dedicated LNG bunker barge for the marine market in North America. Plans call for the 2,200 m3 capacity barge to be delivered in early 2016, initially operating in Tacoma, WA, to service shipowner Totem Ocean Trailer Express’s Orca class RO/RO vessels, in addition to other LNG-powered vessels.

Powerful Tropical Cyclone Marcia dropped a lot of rain as it made landfall and moved over eastern Queensland, Australia from February 19 to 21. Data from NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite was combined with other satellites to create a map of that rainfall.

February 24, 2015— According to a presolicitation notice published earlier this month, the Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) intends to issue a limited competition solicitation to Huntington Ingalls Inc.’s Ingalls Shipbuilding and General Dynamics NASSCO for the detail design and construction of Amphibious Assault Ship (LHA) 8, detail design and construction of T-AO(X) Fleet Oiler Replacement Ships 1-6, LX(R) Contract Design (CD) support, and associated supplies and services.

A collaboration agreement with Alex Thomson Racing has been signed today with Haydale Graphene Industries plc

Alex Thomson Racing (ATR) has reached an agreement with Haydale Graphene Industries plc (Haydale). The Technical Team at ATR will implement their graphene based products and technology in their latest Research and Development programme. Haydale technology has been selected to be used in future design concepts of the HUGO BOSS IMOCA 60 which Alex Thomson competes on in the Ocean Masters Championships.
