2014-15 AYGP title race taking shape…
By AY MultiMedia
November 27th: After four events, the 2014-15 AYGP Pointscore is taking shape, as serious contenders for the 2014-15 AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year awards are making their mark. Paul Winkelmann’s JV42, Island Fling has competed on all four events this season and has held the lead since the Audi China Coast Regatta and overall victory on the Hong Kong to Hainan Race. Although Bill Bremner’s Mills King 40 Foxy Lady 6 has only contested two events, they have won both and accumulated enough points to hold second place and working on successfully defending the title. Bremner’s Foxy Lady 6, exemplary performance puts them on a nine Asian regatta winning streak since 2012 and with the Phuket King’s Cup looming next week, could make it 10 on the trot.
There is a split between skippers and yachts for third place at the moment. Mike Downard has scored well on two different Farr 1104’s to hold third place in the Skippers pointscore and two wins for Alan Carwardine’s Hurricane under different skippers places the catamaran third on the Yacht pointscore.
After planning a full campaign this season, Karl Kwok’s all-conquering TP52 Team Beau Geste set a new benchmark time (25h 54m 33s) on the Hainan Race to hold onto fourth place but has been sold and moving back to Australia after the King’s Cup.
As the Sorensen/Tilden/Ketelbey/Brown Beneteau 44.7 Fujin and Mick Coleman/John Coffin’s Stealth 11.8m Java are embarking on extensive campaigns throughout the season, expect them to improve beyond fifth and sixth place on the table.
The action continues in South East Asian waters, with the Phuket King’s Cup (Nov 30th – Dec 6th), Royal Langkawi Int Regatta (January 12th – 17th) and Neptune Regatta (February 15th – 21st) to wrap up proceedings on the Western Circuit..

This competition is open to all participants, on the family of selected 12 x AYGP point scoring events, held each season and makes it possible for smaller IRC Classes and Multihull’s, that conduct long term racing campaigns, a chance to win the prestigious AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year title.
