Canada buys replacement ferry for Bay of Fundy service
October 30, 2014—The Canadian Government has signed an agreement with Attica Holdings S.A. of Greece to acquire the RoPax ferry Blue Star Ithaki tfor a total cash consideration of EUR 31.2 million (about Canadian $44.6 million). It will replace the MV Princess of Acadia, which serves the Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby, Nova Scotia ferry route, operated by Bay Ferries Ltd.

NASA Sees Cyclone Nilofar Looking More like a Comet than a Tropical Cyclone
Tropical Cyclone Nilofar was closing in on the border between Pakistan and northwestern India on Oct. 30 when NASA’s Terra satellite passed overhead from space. Wind shear continued to affect the storm making it appear more like a comet with a tail, than a tropical cyclone.

ALICANTE, Spain – It’s been 19 days and well over 3,500 nautical miles (nm) since the Volvo Ocean Race fleet set sail for Cape Town from Alicante, but the three leading boats are still within sight of each other with the fourth chasing them down just 18nm adrift.

Slippery ship: First ADM bulker with air-lubed hull
October 29, 2014—Agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) has taken delivery of Harvey Frost, the first of three 95,000 dwt bulk carriers featuring an air lubricated hull. Classed by ClassNK, the newly delivered bulk carrier is the first of three vessels, designed to serve as grain carriers, ordered by ADM in 2011 from Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.
