The ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championships organising committee is proud to announce a prize fund of €10,000 to be allocated to the top sailors at the regatta, set to be held from 3-8 June 2014 in Cork, Ireland.
Organized by the Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) in conjunction with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the regatta will welcome the world’s top female match racers as they battle it out to claim the title and a share of the prize pot.
Chairman of the event Ronan Enright commented, “Having a prize fund shows the commitment this event has to attract some of the world’s best sailors. It also shows how fortunate we are to have sponsors like Cork County Council and Port Of Cork without whom we could not run such events.”
Thirteen international teams are due at the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven next week to compete at this year’s World Championship. This includes Danish Sailor Camilla Ulrikkeholm, World #1 in the ISAF Women’s World Match Race Rankings.
New Zealand entry Claudia Pierce has had to leave her own team at home but has picked up some of Ireland’s own top match racing sailors including Bella Moorehead and Diana Kissane who were runners up in the Irish Match Racing trials back in April.
American hopeful Stephanie Roble, with her team Epic Racing, has been deep in preparation for the trip to Ireland. The World #5 American has been practicing with the US Youth Squad and some of the top US coaches including Dave Perry and Open World #1 Taylor Canfield (ISV).
Great racing is expected with strong competition for the prize fund on offer. Spectators are guaranteed some nail biting sailing – all from the comfort of Camden Fort Meagher in Crosshaven.
Not only will spectators be treated to breath-taking views of Cork Harbour, they will have an unrivalled viewing point for the best racing to be seen in Cork Harbour this year.
