Emirates Team New Zealand became the official challenger to ORACLE TEAM USA for the 34th America’s Cup over the weekend as they convincingly brushed Luna Rossa aside to claim the Louis Vuitton Cup.

The Kiwi team have looked impressive so far ahead of the main event that’s being billed as the “September Showdown”. It all gets going on 7 September in San Francisco, USA.

Over on the other side of America there is plenty more excellent sailing action as the first Byte CII Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games qualification regatta got underway. Hungarian sailors are faring well at the 2013 Byte CII Worlds in Newport, Rhode Island, USA and look set to qualify both boys and girls spots for Nanjing 2014.

The Rolex Farr 40 Worlds are also taking place in Newport with the event in its early stages so far.

We have a new Open Match Race World #1 for the first time since 11 January 2012. Congratulations to Taylor Canfield (ISV) whose impressive performances recently has seen him end Ian Williams’ (GBR) run.

The Finn Gold Cup is well underway and in the last ten years British sailors have come out on top eight times. This excellent run looks set to continue as Andrew Mills (GBR) holds a healthy advantage.

There is now just one week left to nominate sailors for the 2013 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year so act fast before it is too late. All this and more is available to check out in this week’s edition of World Sailing News.

Taylor Canfield (ISV) has taken over as World #1 in the Open Rankings, ending Ian Williams’ run at the top that started on 11 January 2012. Lucy Macgregor (GBR) has moved to the top of the Women’s Rankings pushing Camilla Ulrikkeholm (DEN) to World #2.

Emirates Team New Zealand Wins Second Consecutive Louis Vuitton Cup

Emirates Team New Zealand won the 30th anniversary Louis Vuitton Cup with a 3:20 victory over Italy’s Luna Rossa Challenge in the eighth and deciding race. The Kiwis, who beat Luna Rossa in the previous Louis Vuitton Cup in 2007, won the series 7-1.

The 2013 ISAF Annual Conference will be held at the Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jussah Resort in Muscat Oman from 9 to 16 November.
ISAF delegates are reminded to book their accommodation as soon as possible and ensure they carefully check the visa requirements for entering Oman.
