Precision: “the quality, condition, or fact of being exact and accurate.”

Precision is the key to success in all sport. The faultless golf swing, the perfect line in motor racing, serving an ace in tennis: each requires absolute accuracy. In a team sport such as sailing individual and collective precision is paramount especially when competing with a crew of ten in one of the most aggressive and competitive classes in yacht racing.

The fleet sailing downwind off the coast of Newport, with patches of fog rolling in

When light air and fog delayed the start of racing for day two of the 2013 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship, the race committee took the 15-strong fleet up Narragansett Bay in search of wind. Their patience was rewarded with sunshine and good breeze — for race one of the day — before the fog caught up to the racers and things got complicated.

AnyBody musculo-skeletal model on human centrifuge node full image

Title AnyBody musculo-skeletal model on human centrifuge

Description

The AnyBody Modelling System, developed by the Denmark-based AnyBody company, is the world’s most detailed ‘musculo-skeletal’ model of the human body, incorporating more than 100 bones and 910 muscles. Here it has been placed on a CAD drawing of the ESA-developed Short-Arm Human Centrifuge, operated by DLR’s Institute of Aerospace Medicine. This simulation took place as part of an ESA project to assess the AnyBody model for use in assessing microgravity countermeasures for astronauts in orbit.

28 August 2013

We all have skeletons beneath our skin, so subtracting that skin is a good way to understand how the human body reacts to a ride on a fast-spinning centrifuge, experiencing ‘hypergravity’ in the process.

NAT-Harrier

Hamilton, Bermuda, August 28, 2013

The daily IMAREX index, which is a good measure of the level of the market, was on average $11,500 during the second quarter. June, in particular, was weak, with a time charter equivalent for suezmaxes of $7,500 per day.
