Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (30th May 2013): Ian Williams is starting to look invincible after marching to an imposing lead on day two of the Korea Match Cup. Even when starting a penalty down against the qualifier David Gilmour, the reigning champion of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour still manage to bend the race to his iron will.

World Sailing News – 29 May 2013

Belcher-8e81a47800593cb7f01068daec99b6d2

Mat Belcher and Will Ryan continued their winning ways at the Delta Lloyd Regatta over the weekend. For Belcher it was his 15th consecutive Men’s 470 regatta victory. His run stretches back to November 2011 where Belcher and Malcolm Page took the Australian Championship ahead of the Perth 2011 ISAF Worlds. Belcher got off to winning ways with Ryan at the 2012 ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne and the transition has been seamless. Their next stop is the 470 Europeans from 8-15 June in Formia, Italy so we only have a short wait to see if Belcher can extend his run.

Samui Regatta – AY Race Report 3

Samui-2013-FreefireAntipodesSpin

Close racing produces great photos…
By AY MultiMedia
May 29th, Koh Samui: Although WindGURU weather predictions have been very bleak each day, PRO Ross Chisholm has managed to defy the odds and found excellent wind to keep the racing exciting and the schedule on track. Today it was offshore from Chaweng Beach for a quick windward/leeward race, followed by a passage race to the South East regions of Samui and back. The first race was reasonably routine but right at the start of the second race, the wind completely deserted us, leaving some boats floundering while others managed to sail away. After reassessing their positions on the pointscore, crews knew what was expected from them and how to go about improving their standings.

Samui Regatta – AY Race Report 2

Samui-RacingSpins1

Another fantastic day in paradise…
By AY MultiMedia
May 28th, Koh Samui: Once again the fleet headed round to the North East of Samui and found a 12 to 15 knot North Westerly breeze to set up a windward/leeward course for the IRC 1 & 2 and Multihull classes. After completing the short course, they joined the Bareboat / Cruising class on a passage race, in the Strait between Ko Samui and Ko Phangan. The stakes are getting higher, so all crews were keen to get on with it and overcome any problems they had on Day 1, to improve their standing. As the breeze increased to 18 knots it whipped up a lumpy sea, which resulted in a long slog upwind causing a few casualties and some good surfing opportunities on the way back to the finish.
