WASHINGTON — NASA and the Transportation Department’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) signed a memorandum of understanding Aug. 21 to transfer NASA’s solid rocket booster recovery ship, M/V Liberty Star, to the National Defense Reserve Fleet for use as a training vessel at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
Volunteers from Sunderland’s RNLI station were amongst a host of emergency services that were called into action late last night after a passing moped rider reported that he had seen a women standing on the wrong side of railings on the Queen Alexandra Bridge. Minutes later when Police Officers arrived they were unable to locate the women so a full search and rescue mission was instigated.
Volunteer Deputy Launching Authority, Dave Ashman has raised £570 for Exmouth RNLI made up from sponsorship and prize money. He was also part of a South West RNLI team of five boats which finished second and raised a total of £8,081 for the charity that saves lives at sea.

Olympic Gold medallist Helen Glover swapped her rowing seat for the helm of the Penlee RNLI lifeboat today (Sunday 19 August) for her triumphant return home. Helen from Newlyn, began her victory parade in West Cornwall onboard the lifeboat with Coxswain Patrick ‘Patch’ Harvey.

More than 50 RNLI volunteers from three lifeboat stations in Somerset have been involved in the search for a child missing at Burnham on Sea.
Last night (Sunday 19 August) crews from Burnham on Sea, Weston super Mare and Minehead were called in to join a multi agency hunt for the four year old who went into the water at the town’s slip.
