moksha capsize sea trials

By mid-April, Moksha was ready for a proper sea-trial. First, however, we needed to make sure she would automatically self-right in the event she capsized. Before taking her down to Salcombe, we took advantage of the hand-operated crane at the museum to flip her over in the River Exe. After an initial unmanned test roll, Kenny­ and I clambered inside the cabin and buckled up using seat belts reclaimed from the Ballistic Cleaning van. Kenny had borrowed a camera to film. Steve and Chris operated the crane.

As she tilted to ninety degrees, water began spewing in around the sliding hatch. My head was resting on the plywood roof, hair swimming in a rising pool of water. Read more of this post

Goto Beijing 2008 – AY Photo GalleryJuly 27th: While most Olympic sports enjoy unrivaled live action on terrestrial TV channels and in a world where every athletes move is broadcast across several hundred Satellite Channels. Sailing coverage at past Olympic’s has virtually been nonexistent and live action is generally reserved for the Medal Races towards the end of the event. This time the venue is Weymouth and Portland, which is five hours by train from the epicenter in London. Unless we see or hear anything to the contrary, sailing enthusiasts will have to revert to the Internet for any decent coverage during the event.

The small fishing village of Ballycotton in East Cork is always a good place to be over the August bank holiday weekend. A full calendar of events is organised to raise funds for the all weather lifeboat stationed there. This years organising committee is planning fun events throughout the weekend for young and old, making sure all visitors have a good time.
