Growth and improvement The start of the Grand Prix Guyader today saw competition from the M34s and monotypes (Open 7.40, Longtze and Mach 6.5) as well as a fleet of around fifty Dragons. It was a sweet start to the event ahead of tomorrow’s expected arrival of a low pressure system from the Spanish mainland.
The 2012 edition offers a particularly generous line-up and for some additional flavour all eyes will be turned to Port Rhu for the unique four- day festival of authentic sailing tradition.

Drastic covering tactics as the chasing trio close-up
Shaking out a reef on Phesheya-Racing at the start of a long day
It has been a painful 24 hours for Marco Nannini and Sergio Frattarruolo in second place on Financial Crisis in the double-handed Global Ocean Race (GOR) as the two chasing Class40s, Phesheya-Racing and Sec. Hayai, eat heavily into their lead and Cessna Citation extends quickly away to the north and the finish line in Charleston.

LIGHT AND DANGEROUS INSHORE
Amory Ross/PUMA Ocean Racing/Volvo Ocean Race
The light airs of yesterday caused considerable compression for four of the five boats racing in Leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race, while fifth placed Groupama sailing team (Franck Cammas/FRA) continued to make small losses, and is now over 100 nautical miles behind. The crews are anything but complacent as the action heats up and a new player, Telefónica (Iker Martínez/ESP) enters the game.

They are first, second and third respectively.

Clear of the Caribbean
GOR Race Viewer 12:00 GMT 27/4/12
Over the past 48 hours, the Global Ocean Race (GOR) Class40s have been negotiating the Caribbean Islands and a swollen area of light breeze blocking the route to Charleston. Fleet leader, Cessna Citation broke into fresh north-easterly breeze early on Thursday morning GMT, 180 miles NNE of the Dominican Republic, but in second place, Financial Crisis had to wait a further 24 hours before finding the new wind.
