Australian victory on home soil as Gold Coast Australia continues winning streak

Gold Coast Australia has continued its winning streak, recording a fourth consecutive victory in the first four stages of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race.

The team finished Race 4 of the 40,000-mile circumnavigation, the world’s longest ocean race, at 0704 local time this morning (2304UTC Saturday), under clear blue skies, racing in towards the finish line off the Geraldton shore at more than 11 knots.

Today saw Gold Coast Australia secure victory in the race from Cape Town to Geraldton Western Australia as the race for the final two podium positions heats up. Notching their fourth win of the Clipper 11-12 Race, the Australian entry’s crew where cheered on by a welcome party of friends, family and local residents.

ASSIST AMBULANCE – ILL PERSON ON HOLY ISLAND – CAUSEWAY CLOSED BY TIDE

NO EXTRA HOUR IN BED FOR THE SEAHOUSES LIFEBOAT CREW AS THE CLOCKS WENT FORWARD, as at 05.39hr on Sunday 30th October 2011, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat, to assist the North East Ambulance Service to reach an ill person on the Holy Island. The causeway was closed by the tide and a helicopter was not available. An agreed protocol was activated, and the ambulance crew were directed to Seahouses Harbour, while the lifeboat was launched. The Paramedics were then taken by sea to Holy Island, arriving at 06.50hr.

Gold Coast is cruising to the finish line, far ahead of the rest of the fleet. Edinburgh Inspiring Capital has managed to fight out of last place and the fleet are bunching together so the rest of the podium places could be a close finish.

Mystic, Conn. – Mystic Seaport shipwrights installed the final plank in the hold of the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan on Friday, October 28. The so-called “shutter plank” completes the bulk of the work in the hold, and the focus of the restoration now moves to the exterior of the hull.

The pontoons at the Royal Malta Yacht Club were full yesterday with crews from the Rolex Middle Sea Race fleet busily reloading gear and fresh supplies onboard — and heading off for deliveries back to home ports throughout Europe. Malta’s location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean enables the race to draw from a diverse fleet which this year comprised 70 boats from 16 countries.
